Driving rules

1. Vehicle

1.1 General

All vehicles must comply with the requirements:

- The vehicle must be legal to drive. 
- Gross vehicle weight is 3.5 ton unless otherwise approved by the board.
- Only 4x4 vehicles unless otherwise approved by the board.
- Drivers must have a valid driving license for the type of vehicle that they are using. 
- The vehicle should be equipped with first aid equipment, fire extinguishers and equipment for environmental remediation (ADR-bag).
- Motor driven vehicles (ATV 50 - 150cc) for children are allowed. 
- Before driving, register and pay the fee to the board (if not a member).

1.2 Insurance

- All vehicles must be insured with a minimum motor insurance or equivalent. This shall be evidenced by proof of insurance.

1.3 Registration

- The vehicle does not have to be licensed for use.

1.4 Inspection

- The vehicle must be inspected and be approved for road use by SBP or equivalent. Status shall be evidenced by inspection protocols.
- For race events, see the competition rules for each event.

1.5 ATV

- ATVs are allowed.
- Drivers and passengers must wear helmets.
- Drivers must have a valid driving license for ATV.

1.6 UTV

- UTVs are allowed. 
- Drivers and passengers must wear helmets.
- Drivers must have a valid driving license for UTV.

2. Driving

2.1 General

- All driving must be done in a responsible manner.
- Maximum recommended speed is 30 km/h on the whole area.
- All driving is at your own risk.
- Swedish traffic regulation applies throughout the area. 

2.2 Area

- All driving shall take place on the designated area, if driving outside the designated area is permitted, the driver is required to know the area's outer limits. See the VAO map for reference.
- Respect the restricted areas, if in doubt go another way. Winching in utility poles, fences, or other similar objects is prohibited.
- Do not drive in manmade trenches, soft roadsides etc.

2.3 Environmental

- Driving should be done in such a way that unnecessary ground damage does not occur.
- Check the vehicle while driving, for any oil leaks. Do not create higher emissions than necessary.
- If any leaks of hazardous substances such as oils, diesel and petrol occurs, these must be cleaned up immediately. If the driver does not have the resources to implement this in a satisfactory manner, notify the board.
- Ensure that the vehicle has effective noise reduction and emission according to SRA rules.
- When winching using a tree, use a textile strap, make sure that the tree has a diameter of at least 30 cm.
- Do not knowingly rub against any tree trunks with the vehicle.
- Snow chains is prohibited to use on bare ground.
- Washing the car should be in the designated area, with the possibility to clean the water.
- Any rubbish produced out on the trail must be brought back and disposed at an appropriate place.
- Servicing should only be made at the arranged area.
- Decontamination equipment is available at a designated location in the area.

3.4 Alcohol and drugs

Vetlanda Atv Offroad policy on alcohol and drugs is strictly inforced, and involves following:

- all activities within VAO is completely alcohol and drug free.
- smoking is not allowed in the society premises.
- elling or using any drugs is prohibited by law.
- When parties are organized in the name of VAO, alcohol can only be consumed under arranged circumstances. This is restricted when minors is present.

Out in the trails:

- Drivers must not be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs according to Swedish law.
- Co-driver/passengers must not be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. This may pose a risk to him/her or other people, for example when winching or helping others around the vehicles.

3. Security

3.1 General

- Beware of any spectators, berry pickers and wildlife.
- When winching use the winch mat and gloves, be sure to keep people out of the danger zone, at least the minimum length of the cable in all directions.
- Try not to stop at any blind stops etc. without leaving plenty of room for others to get around.
- Fire extinguishers and first-aid kit must be carried in all vehicles.
- When towing, use the strap at least 4 feet, make sure there is space around the cars before movement, observe extra caution when connecting and disconnecting.
- Keep your distance between vehicles, especially when ATV/UTVs are present.
- Recommended maximum speed is 30km/h in the area.

3.3 Audience

– Föräldrar ansvarar för sina barn i och utanför samtliga fordon.
- Children must be provided with visible/reflective clothes.
- Pets must be leased and under supervision.
- Ensure that the spectators are safe near dangerous passages.
- Make sure that the audience does not get in the way and that they perceive the intended route.
- Help keep away crowds at dangerous spots of the trail/course.
- Inform the public about possible hazards and risks.
- Public Safety is everyone's responsibility.

3.2 Road safety

- Only seats intended for passenger may be used, for example, passengers on pickup truck beds or cargo racks is prohibited.
- In off road vehicles/UTV:s all seating must be fitted with at least waist belt.
- Seatbelt should be used if the vehicle is equipped with this.
- The passenger compartment shall be designed so that passengers cannot come in contact with sharp objects such as from trimmings or damaged parts from the vehicle.
- The vehicle must have working brakes.
- Steering and suspension must be whole.
- Open off road vehicles must be equipped with a roll bar/cage, except vehicles with original design.

4. Other

4.1 Race

- Competition form and associated rules for the race are stated in the invitation and in a personal message to each contestant.
- Tarpaulin or similar is added under vehicles when they are installed in the pit or when repairs are performed at another place in the field or out on the race circuits.
- Refueling is only permitted in designated areas in the pits.
- Decontamination bag must be in every race rig.

Driving license requirements

1 MC = A driving license.
Terrain vehicle = driver's license or tractor license issued prior to 1/1 2000, or a special license for off-road vehicles.
Tractor = Tractor card or driver's license.
